He's Kind of a Big Deal (6 Months)

My biggest boy turned six months old on Thursday, October 6th.  We visited our wonderful pediatrician on Friday and got the comforting assessment that Nathan was in great shape physically and developmentally.  About the only thing we need to work on is getting him on cereal and baby food.  The summary was that I need to stop being stubborn and let the daycare give him cereal during the day so he can get practice every day.

Nathan is now 17 lbs (41%), 28 inches (93%) with a head circumference of 17" (34%). The numbers don't lie...we have a long and lean baby.  Which is why he is wearing 6-9 month onesies/rompers and 9 month sleepers.  He is still an erratic napper, sometimes sleeping for over an hour and sometimes just 30 minutes (or less).  He is ready to check out for the day by around 7:00pm and is generally asleep in his crib by 7:30pm.  He usually goes down very easily and sleeps at least 8 hours before waking up for an early morning snack after which he will sleep for another couple of hours.  He is the wiggliest wiggle worm when taking his bottles and on average eats about 30 oz of Gerber Goodstart formula per day (~6 oz, 5 times a day).  Dr. Haney said that was a perfectly fine amount for him to eat, which was a relief to me, especially after seeing his cousin Chance (2 months old) down 6 oz at a time like it was going out of style and fuss for more afterward.  We recently graduated him to size 3 diapers although they are still a little large.

In celebration of Nathaniel turning 6 months old, Grammy and Great Grandma Sheila came to visit for the weekend. Uncle Cantrell also came over from College Station on Saturday ostensibly to see the family but we really know he just wanted to be fed and get Jimmy's help with his calculus homework.  Lolo, Momo, Popo and Aunt Ashley also came to Houston and we all had lunch together on Saturday.  Yeah, our son is kind of a big deal!

Nathan, you are such a joy to your daddy and me. You are always such a happy baby and we love every minute we get to spend with you.  The weekends are our favorite time when we get the most quality time together.  Everyone who sees you comments on your big brown eyes, happy smiling face and sunny disposition. You are very accepting of "strangers" which makes visits from family very easy.  You love to laugh at silly faces and noises and like to talk to us about your day...especially when it keeps you from falling asleep! I can't say how much I love my precious boy.  I wish I got to spend more time with you, but the time we do get together is always wonderful.

Your rabbit and your "knot" are your favorite things right now, although your Aunt Ashley just got you some drums that I think are going to run a close second.

You still love to read books and grabbing hair is one of your new favorite things to do, especially the baby hairs at the base of Mom's neck. You enjoy spending time on your activity mat and never stay on your back when your tummy is available.  You work and work those legs and I'm sure you'll be crawling in no time!  Cats look out!  As it is you watch the kitties pretty intently, especially their tails waving in the air.  I'm sure we'll have many future conversations about not grabbing the cat's tail.  You also like to practice standing up in our lap and in your activity center.  You can sit up pretty well on your own as long as someone is there to keep you from tipping over or backward. But usually there is something interesting on the floor that you just have to try and grab, so sitting typically quickly turns to bending over.  Such an active boy we have!  I love you, precious angel.

Next weekend we are going to have our first family pictures taken by a professional photographer who is also a member of our church.  I am so excited and can't wait to see the results!
