Olivia - 9 Months Old!

We had a very busy spring!  Olivia turned 9 months old on April 11th, in between brother's birthday and Easter. She made a lot of progress between January and April and I finally started to feel better about her gross motor skill development. Such a sweetie!

  • Stats: Length 28 in (67%), weight 19.1 lbs (67%)
  • She is finally sitting up well by herself. She'll sit up and play with her toys for several minutes at a time.
  • Size 3 diapers, Size 9 month clothes (or 6-12 mo)
  • Laughs at her reflection and at brother, but is generally stingy with her chuckles
  • Takes about 5 bottles a day (between 5 and 7 ounces at a time)
  • Still waking up over night between 1:00 am and 3:00 am. On 2/26 she slept straight until 6:15, by far the latest.
  • Rolling back and forth much better now.
  • Normally will go to bed between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm, wake up once to eat, then back to sleep until 7:00 am or later. Except on the weekend. Then she tortures me and wants to get up at 6:15. [Author's note: Yes, I know that at 9 months she shouldn't still be waking up to eat at night. I was in busy season during the time we should have weaned off of them and I was exhausted. Mommy guilt won.]
  • She wakes up a happy girl and patiently waits for her morning bottle. I can tell when she hasn't slept enough because she is noticeably grumpier.
  • She eats some cereal for mid-morning snack but she still isn't doing very good with eating from a spoon. At home she's had sweet potatoes (fail) and carrots (less fail) and some plain oatmeal cereal (not a fan).  She mostly pushes the food out with her tongue. They tell me at school she's doing better, but not great (which makes me feel better actually).
  • Chewing everything of course. She especially likes her giraffes and rabbit blanket (was brother's blanket).
  • No teeth cutting yet that I can tell.
  • Still not into reading books. She'd rather grab and try to eat them.
  • Looks so much like daddy with that dimpled smile, almond eyes and chubby cheeks. She's getting prettier every day. People always comment on her long eyelashes. Her eyes are light brown with a touch of green in the sun.
  • During the last week of February she started making the "mmmmm" sound. Maybe this one will say mama first! [Author's note: this did not happen. Rotten children.]
  • Week of 3/9 scooting forward at school. First time seeing her get up on her knees and scoot forward on her tummy was 3/22.
  • Using "baba" or "bubu" sounds frequently starting mid-March
  • First ear infection diagnosed 3/18  - Livy bug is NOT a good medicine taker like her brother. In fact, Nathan cried because the medicine wasn't for him. So, I had 2 babies crying about the medicine for different reasons. That was fun. It took several days before we figured out she would take the medicine with 2 ounces of formula. Those were a long few day!
  • 3/24 - first time army crawling with purpose.
  • 3/30 saying "mama" on purpose (She had already said Dada but I didn't write down when it happened.  Who cares anyway.)
  • 4/11 cut first tooth on the bottom
  • 4/12 waving hi and bye on purpose. Her style is the floppy hand (you know, if you move your arm up and down the hand just kind of follows along).
  • Started pulling herself up to standing in late April. She loves being "up high."
Livy-bug, you are my sweet angel and I love you so very much. You are so expressive and already such a firecracker!  Your dimpled smile makes me laugh and you just love to be around your brother and "help" me with everything. You are also fascinated by the cats and now that you can army crawl you try to follow them around as best you can (although they are still too quick for you). I love seeing your personality develop and I know you are going to be a remarkable young lady. Just, take it easy on Mommy, please?

"Look at the bow my Lolo got me! It is bigger than my head!"

Mmmmmmmm

The only picture from the actual day she turned 9 months. We realized it the next day. "Quick, put her in something cute and take pictures..."

Nine months and one day pictures...

Standing up like a big girl in "baby jail."

"Hi Mommy. Were you trying to take my picture?"
